Under the impact of economic globalization, standards are not only the basis for R & D manufacturing inspection, but also the basis for procurement and trade. It is related to the product safety, health and environmental protection. It is a particularly important for the production import inspection and safety inspection for related industries. To facilitate competitiveness of nanotechnology related industries in Taiwan, the Taiwan Nano Standard Technical Council (TNSC) was founded on June 26, 2009 at the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs. The TNSC was set up under the supervised of the office of Nano National Science and Technology Program and Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, Ministry of Economic Affairs. It was commissioned by the Center of Measurement Standards, ITRI as the secretariat to assist the operation of TNSC.
Purpose
The purpose of Taiwan Nano Standard Council (TNSC) is to support the development of nanotechnology standards, to establish an information sharing and exchanging platform, to integrate opinions form different stakeholders, to reach an consensus and to speed up the development of nanotechnology industry.
TNSC can be a platform for coordination with international standards and help synchronizing with international standards.
Operation mode
In general, there are standard development committees which are actively developing relevant standards in International Standards Organization (ISO, IEC) as well as in other countries such as the United States, Britain, Japan, China, Israel, etc. Therefore, the establishment and operation of the Nano Standard Technical Advisory Council will be based on the international standards organization operation model, the task-based committee, responsible for planning, approving and developing relevant nano-standards. In addition, the TANIDA acts as a mirror committe to international nanotechnology standards committees such as International Organization for Standardization ISO / TC 229 and International Electrotechnical Commission IEC / TC 113 to assist in the development of relevant international standards. The development of nano-standard will base on domestic and foreign demands, the technical working group will be formed by the domestic experts and scholars, drafting the relevant nano-standards. The four technical working group set up at the initial stage will develop standards about Terminology and nomenclature, Performance, Measurement and characterization, Health, Safety and Environmental Aspects of Nanotechnologies and Material specifications.
